Telephone cable

by TONYTONE » Mon Jun 16, 2008 1:17 pm

Hi Guys,

I've got some 6 core telephone cable at home and I know that you only need three of them to use broadband and a telephone. The ones I am using at the moment are: :?

Blue = 2
Orange = 3
White/Blue = 5

Does anyone know what the other three cables and connections are actually for?

Not sure if your talking about main incoming if so only two cores used other cores are to allow more than one line e.g. fax.

Inside the home after master socket a third cable used for bells on old phones where fax machines are used the old ones needed good signal and it was common to feed all telephone through the fax machine which once it detected a fax would turn off the phones so getting a better signal.

Cheers ericmark

The wires I'm talking about are the ones coming into the master socket and then the ones running around the house.

Makes sense what you said.

As Eric has said, you only need the 2 cores on 2 and 5, the others are not required even with broadband.
