garden

by mwilson75 » Tue May 08, 2007 12:17 pm

I am considering getting rid of all of the grass in my garden and covering the area with stone chippings of some sort and a few pot plants/shrubs in an attempt to make the garden relatively low maintenance. The area to be covered is 14m by 9m. Could anyone tell me the right way to go about this, ie how much chippings do I need, do I need a membrane etc etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

You need a weed fabric which stops light entering but does not hold water. This will stop the weeds growing through. The weed fabric can be found in our projects section under the project called garden makeover. Scroll to the bottom of it and you will see the Geotextile fabric. A link is below. You can work out the volume of chippings required by going to our material volumes project. The chippings will need to be about 30mm deep to ensure good coverage.
