I am thinking about re-positioning and replacing my gas boiler and would be grateful for guidance.

1. Can a boiler be fixed to lathe and plaster? If not, should the lathe and plaster be removed and a wooden frame attached to the wall for mounting the boiler?

2. Are there any rules re distance of the boiler flue from a cast iron downpipe?

3. Does a flue have to go vertically up and horizontally out through the external wall? Is it possible to offset the flue in order to get a safe distance away from eg cast iron downpipes?

Obviously the wall has to be sound and strong enough to take the wight of the boiler.

A flue can be offset, but you must refer to the manufacturers instructions for flue options - all boilers are different.

As for the cast iron downpipe - again refer to the manufacturers instructions, normally a minimum of 25mm clearance is required.
