Well it's good bye to the 16th and Hello to the 17th no longer can we tell people to hurry up.
We all know theory now but how is it going in the real world? Are there any double RCD units left in stock. And in real life how are customers taking to the extra costs involved?
My son has just asked me if I want my 16th Edition back I had wondered were it was and also it seems he has my Book 3 and Guide to 16th Edition.
Was it sound of music that had 16 to 17 song?
All the forums seem dead so maybe business is good with everyone trying to beat dead line.
So is it ritual burning of the brown book now, or should we keep it and let it collect dust?

Good to know you have been keeping things going, I have been on the 'missing list' for some weeks now due to ill health [mine] & wedding [daughter number 2].
Been playing 'catch-up' with very large government job I had running for several weeks now, today had 'hand-over' board convened to look at work, went well and told they are going to sign off of job so can put in for 90% payment, then final 10% when all documents passed over, which means those test certs/drawings/DB charts etc. are worth around £2500 to me!!!!! kind regards

I was wondering what had happened I have looked at posts and it seems my name all the way down. I even missed a day to see if others stepped in but we just seemed to get the look at projects section even when I knew it would not answer their questions. Glad to hear you have been busy though it’s nice when something works out well. And the HF guys tell me there have been some good conditions so I expect you have been busy there as well. Never did get into the drawings tried CAD but would end up using Visio I was looking forward to CAD on Uni course but it ended up being Electronics work bench not the standard Auto CAD. Test certs are OK until you find you have lost the box you put the readings on. We had the Robin all singing dancing earth loop tester which was suppose to store the reading for down load but it went wrong too often so I always wrote them down. The PAT tester worked OK until they changed the PC for one without a disk drive. My son tells me 17th is already becoming a problem and it seems sparks are doing job requested then advising the customer needs a new consumer unit but are not insisting on the work being done. I can understand it but not sure if right approach? I can’t see how anyone can issue a completion certificate under Part P if the RCD protection has not been added? Although it does state on the web version of Part P BS7671:2001 not just BS7671 so maybe we don’t need to comply with BS7671:2008 for Part P not being a member of any of the clearing houses I have never seen what they recommend. Also seems people are finding swapped neutrals in stair way lights and the idea of up stairs lights with down stairs sockets is not working out. My son is lucky he is working on council houses and there is no problem doing things to the book. In fact he found one house where the lighting earths had not been taken to the switches in the stud walls not sure even needed as plastic box and plastic switch but normally put their in case some one changes them and when he asked what was their preferred method of correcting this fault he was told rip out and rewire if there is one fault like that maybe there are others. There were no other faults. But not all clients are so easy to work with. Some of the questions asked on the trade forums does make one wonder on training given but I am sure I made silly mistakes I must look up new name for method of fault protection not using EEBADS any more.
