I am laying a laminate floor and understand that the door architraves require trimming for a 'floating floor'. How do I cut the architrave and matching lamniate floor to ensure a neat job without any gaps?

The easiest way is to use a tenon saw laying flat on the floor to tri the architrave Joe. If you would rather cut the flooring round the architrave then go to the projects section and look at the project called laying floor tiles. In there, there is a tool called a profile gauge which you press against the architrave to get the correct shape to cut from the floor.

I have used a tenon saw in the past fairly successfuly but it is a bit hard on the knuckles and have purchased a flexible pull saw hoping for better results. The problem with lock flooring is that you have to lift it slightly to get it to engage with the rest of the flooring but you cannot slip it under the architrave at the same time. If you get my meaning.
A profile gauge sounds a good investment for DIY projects generally.

It would be a great idea if places that sold laminate flooring had a big sign saying:
"DON'T FIX THE SKIRTING BOARDS UNTIL YOU BUY AND FIT LAMINATE FLOORING"
