Stone drive on a gradient

by DJR » Fri Jun 27, 2008 6:37 pm

I have a fairly flat drive which is currently part tarmac and part type1.
I want to cover this with a green basalt stone, i have a gradient of about 1 in 12 which covers the initiall 20 feet of drive, will this be possible to do or will this stone migrate. Has anyone any other ideas? would idealy like to stick with a type of stone

Stone drive

by DJR » Fri Jul 11, 2008 1:56 pm

I have installed a row of kerb sets around the entire drive approx 35mm above existing tarmac level.
My question may have been misleading, it was more which stone will lock together, im aware that round gravel will move under wheel and foot ie wheel spin. Is there a stone that once compacted will form a more secure surface? and solve the proplem of access for vehicles on the gradiant.
Advice is appreciated.

different stone pits have different types of stone .the stone i use is 14mm crushed stone, not natural, whatever size stone you choose it needs to be crushed as it tends to just flatten instead of roll, hope this helps.cliff
