I have a single plug socket behing a radiator which I want to move over a foot or so and change to a double. Can I do this myself (if so how exactly) or do I have to get an electrician?

Can I chisel out the plaster horizontally at the same hight as the existing socket and what sort of junction do I need to join the wires?
I think there may be some confusion here, I think Doc reads it that you want to move rad. plus change single to dble skt.
I think you want to just move skt sideways and change to a dble. skt?
If I am correct then the only way I would go is to get a blank single cover plate to fit in place of single which is deemed to be a 'removable inspection cover' and would allow you to chase along wall at same height to new double socket and use 30Amp connector blocks behind cover plate.

yes, it's ok as long as u do it the way i described, this would mean you are wiring between points, even if one is only now a blank plate this should make it obvious that there might be cables run along there. this becomes a safe zone .

Are there any rules about how close central heating radiators and socket outlets can be? (I've got an existing socket in the skirting board and would like to site a rad spanning over the top...)
