Filling in Holes drilled in kitchen wall

What is the best way to fill in holes in plastered walls to look good for re-painting.

Wil, I would use interior filler and sand down flat when dry :shock:

I know that I can use filler and sand down but when I have down this in the past you can see on the wall when painted the mark is there some sort of technique to get a smoother finish.
