washing machine cold water feed ? All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Hi, new to the site, im looking for some advise with regards to the cold feed needed for a washing machine, basically I recently had a friend/retied ex plumber move my washing machine to a new location in the house he has plumbed into an upstairs cold feed that leads to the loft tank the machine seems to be working fine but I have been told it should really be mains fed? We are due to get a new machine soon and it is a cold feed only so im a little worried this could be a problem, the tank is about 16ft above the machine.

Would be grateful for all advice .

16 ft = roughly 0.3 metres = 0.3 bar of pressure.

Most new machines require 1.0bar or above.

Therefore, ideally it should be mains fed and if your washing machine is anywhere near/in your kitchen near to the mains feed, I cant understand why it wasnt mains fed originally.

You said "......he has plumbed into an upstairs cold feed that leads to the loft tank". Well, in that case it would be on the mains high pressure side and perfectly ok or do you mean he has used the flow FROM the header tank, in which case it wouldn't?

Hi, just had a new plumber come out he is comming back to connect to the mains , has you stated only getting 0.3bar when he did a pressure test .
