Hi all
Does the room thermostat get the temperature from wherever it is?
Ours is on the landing where there are no radiators.
The boiler will go off and then strike up again within say 20 seconds sometimes. Would this be for the heating or the hot water?
Should the gap not be for a bit longer? Seems inefficient to keep going off and on so quickly.
Advice appreciated.

Well, you don't say what type of boiler or system you have, but the stat does measure the temperature where it is sited so if there are no radiators around it may not be very accurate in how it controls the house temp.

Depending on the boiler/system, it could be the boiler is firing due to the temp drop of the water in the boiler circuit dropping as the radiators give out heat. This is normal for old style of boiler, and yes is quite inefficient.

It depends what you have the programmer set to, if on CH and HW then the boiler may be coming on for both - more likely to be for CH as the HW should retain the heat.

It will be the boiler stat bringing the boiler on and off not the room stat, once the house is warm, you should find the boiler will stay off for longer as the radiators and rooms are hot. For the first 25-30 mins or so it will cycle on and off quite alot.


The room stat only controls the temperature of the room it's in, that room may be cold and the rest of the house hot.
