Help needed - wet spot on ground floor in home

by fridge » Wed Oct 22, 2008 9:03 pm

Hi all,
First post on here as I am pretty concerned about a wet patch in my home.

It is on the ground floor (floor is concrete), and is only in one specific area, probably abour 6inches by 10 inches wide. Carpet is soggy to touch, but again, only in this one area. It is in a position where the house was extended, so would be on the external wall (but kitched extended beyond that), and it is at the door element.

No other dampness in this area, and no obvious leaks!

What could cause it? How much of a concern is it? Getting worried with reading other websites (but they are trying to sell something!).

Thanks

I would guess that whoever laid the floor did a poor job in joining the new dpm to the old.
You can either dig up the floor find the dpm and try to repair it, not recommended. Or paint the area with a liquid damp proof course.
I have never done either of these things so I cannot say what the outcome will be but, these liquid damp proof membranes are used on a daily basis when leveling floors and they do work.
