Problem with water back flow in kitchen sink

Post by Keendiyer » Thu Oct 23, 2008 9:51 pm

Hi, can anyone help me?

I have a flat on the first floor of a five floor building. When I run either the dishwasher or the washing machine in the kitchen I get a backflow of dirty water into the kitchen sink.

Normally the sink drains fine.

Is there anything I can fit to stop the water coming back into the sink - some kind of back flow device? I've had a look about but can't see anything appropriate.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

It could be that your waste is partly blocked try putting some chemical sink cleaner down and leave it in over night, then get a good plunger and fill the sink with hot (not boiling water) then cover the overflow with wedge of kitchen roll paper and plunge the sink same time as machine discharges, this should shift anything in the pipe.
