Radiator Problem not come across before

by stu-b » Sat Nov 01, 2008 11:00 pm

Hi,
Our radiators have been working fine but having returned from a week away, find the house freezing. We have a hot water system and a separate heating system. Hot water - no problems. Heating, the pipes are hot, the pump kicks in about once every two hours for about 10 - 15 minutes, not enough to heat anything much. One thing I have noticed is that the pump is very hot, I know it pumps the hot water round the house but I have not noted it before. I have tried playing with room thermostat, heating controls, even tried turning up the thermostat on the boiler from 60 to 70. This resulted in the pump kicking in again for about 3 minutes but then stopped. Adjusting this upwards again had no effect so it's now back to 60.
Any thoughts gratefully received. Bet it freezes tonight....just my luck.
Thanks.

Hi
A friend had a pump which became hot while the radiators were cool. The reason was an airlock around the pump. I presume it is usually cooled by water but in his case it was surrounded mainly by air. Perhaps the pump cuts out when it reaches a certain temperature.
I know pumps can be bled by a central screw. Hope this information helps.

hi
i cant see it being an airlock if you havent touched the system, but you never know
could be the two/three port actuator
