Adding wall lights & overhang cupboard lights to a bedro

by owenn » Wed May 16, 2007 10:28 am

Please Help, were doing the bedroom up & the MRS wants lights everywhere, At the momemt we have just one main light in the bedroom conected to just one dimmer switch, which is on the loop-in system, she wants 2 wall lights above bedroom & 3 lights which come over the fitted wardrobes, these will be all connected to a 3 gang dimmer, I know that the 3 wardrobes lights will be on a transformer. can anyone give me some guidance on how best to wire these lights please , is it just a case of connecting 1.5mm2 twin & earth wire from the 3 gang switch directly to the new lights or do i have to wire in from ceiling rose in the bedroom.

Hi Owen,
Not going to be easy to explain but you may find helpful drawing in 'projects' You cant run from sw. position as no neutral there,
If loft access then best way is to run tw/e from existing light ,connecting to N, E, & looped live, to a 6 term J.Box.
Run new 3 core & earth from switch position to Jbox, @ j box connect perm. live to 3cores brown core,
at switch connect brown to both Commons of two new switches, connect black to L1 on 1 sw. & grey to L1 of other sw. (both should be sleeved with brown sleeving or tape to show sw. lives.
existing pair go to 3rd sw, C & L1
will post more abt connecting lights to J box later got to go out....
