as a property investor,i am wondering if there is an easier way of finding out what type of system it is ,without going into the roofspace to look for the expansion tank(as in an open system) ?

There are several different ways, of identifying systems. What you need to do is a little homework about different systems for a start, but the best giveaway is how many and what size pipes go up though the ceiling into the loft. Trouble is, they could of curse be redundant, left over after an upgrade for example.
