Can anyone confirm the prep work prior to fitting Karndean Flooring to a concrete floor, please?
I believe I have to put down some floor leveling compound, then some kind of solution over this, prior to the adhesive.
Is this correct?

Hi,

Yes you will need to put down a leelling compound prior to insulation for Karndean. If it is a new concrete floor, you need to prime the floor and then use a water based screed, eg Stopgap 300 or if it is an old floor with a bitumen glue, for example you will have to use a latex screed, eg Stopgap green bag and 114 liquid. You will also need a high temperature adhesive if fitting in a conservatory or a room with a lot of sunlight or underfloor heating, otherwise a pressure sensitive adhesive c an be used.

Karndean specify that once a self smoothing compound has been layed, that you should then put a coat of feather finish, which is a compound from ardex, that takes out any trowel marks /dips or raises in the screed..
For karndean the floor should be as close to a sheet of glass as possible..

When we screed floors now we use a spiked aeration roller in the wet screed to create a power floated finsh..
The feather finish also gives a good surface to bond to with HT or pressure sensitive adhesive...
