Hi All,

Is there any product I can use to apply skim onto MDF. The back part of my stairs is MDF and needs to be skimmed and painted. I cant apply plasterboard as it will be seen at the edges and dont want to add moulding. Is there a product I can put on the MDF that will allow the skim to bond and stick to it?

you could PVA it, how big is the area and why can you not board and tape edges.

I actually did put PVA onit before applying skim. It lasted 6 months and then came off. I dont want to return the skim aroujnd the side of the stairs. I just want to do the underneath. I'm now thinkin maybe wallpaper and then paint it.??

[go to a good plaster or drylining suppliers and get a tub of thistle-bond apply this then plaster or just p/board over it

did you allow the pva to dry before plastering? you should start applying plaster whilst the pva is still tacky.

plaster will normally stick to mdf if pva'd. but if it's mdf does it need skimming? is it not good enough to go straight on with the paint?
