it sounds like it could be a rectifiation problem check out the ignighter lead even though it sparks i have had one of these problems and the lead was open circuit insde the lead the spark can jump a gap in the lead but does not recognize continuity as needed for rectification,
might be worth a try to test the wire with a continuity meter
