Are there specific problems associated with a drop system?

by Foreigner » Wed Dec 10, 2008 3:36 pm

Hello, this is my first post.

If anyone can help with my question, I shall be most grateful.

I'm planning to install oil-fired central heating. The house has a tiled ground floor throughout, so most of the flow/return pipes will have to drop down to each downstairs rad from the first floor - about 2.6m .

Please can anyone let me know if they are aware of specific problems that I should lookout for when designing the system? Is this type of installation likely to be problematic?

Cheers.

Foreigner,
There should not be any problems but you may need to fit some vent valves at strategic points on the first floor. You also need to consider where to put drainage valves.

Thanks Stoneyboy, I'm glad you mentioned vent valves at high points.

I really don't like the idea of pushing hot water down and cold water up, but I have no other option. I suppose if the system's sealed, it's all down to the circulation pump.
