how can i tell if ive got a mains direct or gravity fed system. if i turn the stopcock off all the cold water taps stop working, so i think its a mains system. i then went into the loft & there is a water tank. confused now please help as i want to fit a power shower thanks geordielad

If when you turn the stop cock off all the taps immediately stop, they are likely to be mains fed.

The cold tank will probably just feed the hot water cylinder and possibly (not necessarily) the toilets.

For a power shower you would need a cold feed from the loft tank and the hot from the hot cylinder so that the pressures are matched into the pump.
