insulatiing bedroom floor / lobby ceiling

by rodger » Sat Jan 10, 2009 7:25 pm

I have an unheated front door lobby with a bedroom above it. Consequently the bedroom area directly above the unheated lobby gets very cold. What is the best way to insulate it? By lifing the bedroom floorboards and stuffing the space with fibreglass or similar - or by fixing some sort of rigid insulation board to the ceiling of the lobby?
Thanks

Third option.

Ensure first you have no draughts around external front door.
Try leaving the inner hall door open. This will allow the heat from the hall to warm up this cold area. Once the temperatures have equalised you wont have a cold spot under the bedroom.

You wont notice any increase in your heating costs for such a small area.
