Protecting painted kitchen tiles Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

We have painted over our kitchen tiles but really need to protect the paintwork with some kind of heat resistant/chip resistant ( not CHIPS!) material. Tried varous varnishes but they chip and peel off very easily. Any ideas are most welcome?
