Storing Paper/Valuables in Damp Conditions -Please Help!

by Lozinger » Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:39 pm

Hi,

I will be renting my hous eout for a year because, I have to work elsewhere - storage is quite dear so - . I am planning to store all my things in my sercured garage and loft. The thing is , I normally wouldnt do this as things like paper as we know gets damp, curls up etc etc. Cloths gets damp....

I cant really afford to (or have the time to) damp proof the storage areas. But I was wondering if anyone had any tips on howe to damp proof the things I store in them.

For instance I thought that paper based things books etc could be stored in boxes, but maybe line these boxes with plastic? But in the summer would these then sweat? etc etc.

I have been racking my brains to see what would be the best way to store things like papers, books, clothes, wooden furniture, soft furnishings etc in a damp-ish envirnonment. Neither is hugely damp but they are typlical of a loft and garage prone to cold, moisture in the winter and heat in the summer.

Would be great if anyone had any ideas, or could point me in the direction of some,

Many Thanks,

Loz.

just wrap them in polythene and tape them up. They will be fine.
