Removing paint from a deck????

by MichelleGuestGornall » Thu May 17, 2007 1:43 pm

Hi there,

I have stupidly painted half my new deck with fence paint. It is not staying on the surface and seems to rub off very easily. I know now that I should have used decking stain and not a paint.

Any ideas as to how best to remove the paint. The decking is the one with the indents length ways. Kind of pin strips if you know what I mean.

I have thought about sanding but this will not get in the grooves. Shall I use a paint stripper?

I would appreciate any advice!

Thanks,

Really good wipe with a cloth dipped in white spirit might do it Michelle. If not you can resort to the paint stripper in our paint stripping project. See above

I find that white spirits or paint strippers are not too plant & pet friendly, so find a product called PrepDeck. You can apply this to the paint, leave for approx 20 mins and then power wash off. Hope this helps.
Regards,
