Can anyone give me advice and guidence on what to do first with a semi detached 1940's 3 bedroom house. Has no bathroom, no hot water, no one has ever been in the loft due to small aperture, no central heating, small scullary kitchen. I have cleared the personal possesions but don't know where to start. I envisage keeping it and renovating it to a suitable standard.
My 1st home was like this, and as a result of a survey, our first item was to repair the roof, as everything else you do would affected by water. My father drew up plans, and we managed to pinch room for a bathroom. We then had to put in the damp proofing, as this also affects the other works and was the most messy. We opened up the fireplaces temporarily, which had the added benefit of drying out plaster. All the electrics were redone before the plastering. The kitchen we did with cheap secondhand units, just to get the water running. Our priorities where, to be able to work in relative comfort, to be able to clean tools and ourselves and security. hope this helps
