EUROPEAN APPLIANCES IN UK Help, advice and problem solutions on all aspects of home appliances from washing machines to TV's

:D [color=red][/color]USING GERMAN OR EUROPEAN APPLIANCES BACK
IN THE UK. Are european adaptors safe to use,obviously they dont convert
the voltage.Or is it better to use proper transformers or converters? Im talking mainly about smaller appliances,toasters,tv,stereo etc.. Although a
large amount of computer equipment will be brought over,involving a large
number of plugs. Its really difficult finding people that truely know so any

I believe the supply voltage in Germany is 230v. If your equipment was purchased for use in the EU we are supposed to be harmonised across the EU at 230v +/- 10% (might be 7 can't remember). I don't see any reason why you should need anything other than adaptors.
If you are concerned look at the rating plate on each appliance and contact individual manufacturers for advice.

muzzikka all appliances should work OK. There are special plugs which fit over the Schuko plugs to convert to British standard 13 amp.

You may need to go to specialist shop to get good quality converters like RS Components do be careful to ensure earths are connected. I normally buy some cheap extension leads while on holiday to take Schuko plugs then fit a 13 amp plug to extension lead to take all the little transformers you get.
You can use most European sockets in Britain but you would have to fit fuse connection units at each socket as our system will allow 32 amp to each socket and relies on fuse in plug. You can't use the German Schuko in UK we class them as dangerous as they can be fitted either way around so line and neutral can be swapped. You can use the plugs with adaptors only the sockets are banned.
