What kind of tape sticks to glass?

by RK » Wed Jan 21, 2009 4:18 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to mask off some areas on glass for a paint job. What kind of tape will actually stick to the glass? Is it power duck tape?

Ordinary masking tape doesn't stick (as you proabably know and I didn't!).

Thanks in advance.

RK,
I've never had any problems with ordinary masking tape. Is there condensation on the windows or are you using low grip tape?

Hi Stoneyboy,

I've discovered that masking tape is graded in hours (12 hour, 24 hour, 14 day etc) and that it gets more tackier the longer the hours.

The economy masking tape I bought from B&Q was very low grip as you pointed out. I tried the professional 14 day blue masking tape from Wickes and that works fine.

The all-weather 'clear' tape from Wickes also worked fine.

So much to learn in this DIY lark...it's all good :-)
