cracks in old house

by freeleaf » Mon Oct 27, 2008 8:00 am

We have a victorian inner terraced house, and there is a large crack, about a cm wide, in an inner wall in the kitchen. There are lots of other smaller cracks, eg, where the wall and ceiling meet, but this one is much wider than the others. Have checked with next door and it doesn't go right through to them. We're not sure of it's just the plaster-there's lots of problems all over the house with the paint not sticking, and crumbling off when touched, or if it's something more serious.
Any ideas on how we should deal with it, and what might fill it? We wonder if it's the temperature extremes in the kitchen that's causing the cracks, as they're much worse in that room than the others,
Thank you-all advice appreciated

Yes, I have searched the projects first, I saw some messages but they weren't specifically about this-lots of query's about plaster board. cracks in brickwork etc. This is different-it's a wide crack in the plasterwork
