New lighting circuit, switch one light on, another goes out? Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

I recently re wired my complete house due to the old wiring being of the rubber kind. (really old) Everything has worked fine apart from one particular light. I have run a junction box system, i have a kitchen diner with a triple light switch, one for the dining room, one for the kitchen and one for under cupboard lighting. The last junction box in the circuit is for a understairs cupboard light. When the kitchen light is on, the cupboard light won't work, switch the kitchen light off and then it comes on? And visa versa. The cupboard light junction box is the next one on from this kitchen light. Does anybody know which wires i may have mixed up?

Connecting a 3 gang switch requires a bit of thought, concentration and technical knowhow even when you're on site with it in front of you so to be able to talk you through this remotely from the description you've given is extremely difficult as there are so many possibilities depending on the way you have installed & connected the cables.

My guess is you've got the feed to the under cupboard light connected to the L2 connection of the kitchen light switch which energises when the kitchen light is off, but de-energises when its switched on.

Its the "and vice versa" bit that complicates things which seems to suggest you've got the understairs light connected wrong as well.

If on investigation what I've said is found to be correct take cable from L2 connection and make it permanent live.

Should then work OK.
