Repairing exterior bath stone or similar

by AJH64 » Sun Jan 25, 2009 1:15 pm

Hi there, first question from me a new member!
the front of my house is made of Bath Stone - which deteriorates even when painted. I had been doing repairs with normal exterior filler then priming, undercaoting, painting with ext. paints in the usual way and that had usually lasted about 18mths. This year's extra cold weather has meant this has lasted about 2 weeks! Any suggestions on a more durable substance to repair this stone with that can be painted over and doesn't cost ££££ and is widely available? Many thanks, AJH64 (Andrew)

AJH64,
Try using weathershield exterior filler and overpainting with sandtex masonry paint (with microseal technology). I suspect you are sealing in dampness in the wall with the paints you have used in the past.
