Hi, we have a detached 3 bedroomed house with 4 sidede hipped roof. What are the possibilities of converting the loft using dormer windows?

Anything is potentially possible and can be designed by a strucvtural engineer, but there are a number of factors to consider :-

Planning,
Building Regs
How much you want to spend
Layout of the existing property

Hi, depending on height, and assuming a foundation footprint of aprox 6mtrs square, the rule of thumb is you can usually build a dorma as wide is your ridge is long. Other more drastic option is to extend the brickwork on two opposite gables, this will give a far larger room. In my experience its not cost effective to convert a roof such as yours. regards DG
