RE: DAMP PROOFING/CONDENSATION
BACKGROUND:
The house is a 1900 brick built end terrace. This house has large rooms and high ceilings. The house is generally in good condition, has new roof, guttering, pvc windows and all rooms have recently been re – skimmed. The earth level to one side of the property is 1.5m (approx.) higher to our ground floor. Our problem is towards the rear of our property which has been extended and has a flat concrete roof with hard tarmac on top. Extension was in place before we bought the property. We believe there is no cavity to the property.
PROBLEMS:
• Running water on windows/walls (severe condensation)
• Walls covered with black mould
• Plaster & paintwork is bubbling under the curtain in living room
• Rooms are very cold and smelly
We have had three different people to look at this problem and have had three different answers.
Could you please advise us on the following:
• What type of dehumidifier do we need
• Where do we install it i.e. will it be enough to cover the area (3 separate rooms)
• Damp proofing materials – Ultracure Injection cream – is this a good product?
• Due to the earth level being higher than our property – will damp proofing cure the problems that it causes?
