Help Please - Wiring for 4LT Bar Spotlight (Asda)

by Andrea.Bexly-Harris » Sat Jan 31, 2009 10:51 am

Guys..

I purchased one of these recently for a bedroom.

I am a hands on person and know how to change a plug, wire a socket and wash and iron lol (though not a lot)

I unscrewed the pennant light and made note of the ceiling wiring.

There are 1 RED, 2 BLACKS 3 EARTHS.

The wiring on the existing rose has an 8 block connector.

The wiring with my Asda light has just 4.

My question is do I twist the 2 blacks together and connect to Neutral Block?

My Red is obviously my LIVE - And the Earths all connect to the Earth, i know.

I did look for a red band on one of the blacks, but there isnt one (I have searched this forum before posting.. so please no sarcasism)

Thanks in advance

Andrea

OK...

I now know which of the BLACK wires are my "Switched Live"
I have placed a band of red insulation tape to remind me.

So, I have now:-

1 x RED
1 x BLACK (lLive Switch)
1 x BLACK
3 x EARTH

On the connecting block for the new light is has only 4 connecting blocks:

BLUE -N-
GRN/YEL -E-
BRWN -L-

It also has a forth block provided for loop termination.

My question now is - which connector does the switched live go to? Does the switched live and live both go to BROWN
Earths go to GRN/YEL & Neutral go to BLUE?

Thanks in advance

that is an odd combination of wires
3 earths usually means 3 cables
