Replacing blown chipboard flooring in flat!!!!

by gooner4life » Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:35 pm

My mates washing machine has been dripping for 2 years causing the chipboard floor to expand throughout kitchen / living room. The whole floor needs replacing. I can take the kitchen out no problems and refit easy enough. Any tips for the easiest removal of the old chipboard - can i use my reciprocating saw? And what would be the best material to use in replacement? Any tips much appreciated!!

dont think it should be too hard to lift, a nail bar if it is nailed down and screw gun if screwed

u could use chipboard again, or maybe plywood, u could tile over these obviously, dont understand where your problem is, maybe you could post a clearer reply

gooner4life,
If the chipboard has been regularly wet you should be able to remove it easily by levering it up off the joists. Would not recommend the reciprocating saw in case you cut through cables.
Replace the floor with 22mm green T&G chipboard but take the opportunity to insulate between the floor joists.
end

Would you remove the skirting boards before relaying the new floor? And should i glue and screw the boards?
Thanks for your help!

gooner4life,
Yes to all questions but leave boards in the house for a week - loose lay them.
end
