Hot water spurting from overflow All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Got a problem with hot water gushing out of overflow.
We have a Titan Flomaster pressurised cylinder (mains cold feed). It is an 'indirect' system. Had to turn off stop tap at cylinder's inlet from central heating to stop the overflow. The water in the expansion tank is hot and this seems to be where the overflow is coming from.
Local plumber said the cylinder needed replacing (its only 5 years old) as water from the CH system coil must be getting water in from the cylinder (at least I think thats what he said). He did suggest I get a second opinion! Does this sound possible?

Hi Jules,

Yes it's possible.
Whay speed is your pump set at? If at 3 turn it down to 2 or even 1 and see result.

Yes its definitely the problem. Disappointing after only 5 years. Now I need to decide whether to do a straight replacement or go for a combi boiler (or go on holiday).

Did you turn the pump speed down?

Is the hot water rising up the feed into the F&E tank or is it coming out of the vent? The former is an indication of a failed coil. Which is it?
