Do I need a DPM? Help, advice, information, answers and tips on all types of flooring from laminate and carpet to timber and vinyl

I am about to put down a laminate floor (Floormaster "tile loc") in my kitchen; the house is about 5 years old and I believe that the sub floor is concrete with vinyl tiles adhered directly to it. Can anyone advise whether I will need to put down a damp-proof membrane, or can I simply lay the laminate boards directly onto the tiles?

you wont need a DPM but you will need an underlay under the boards,if in dought get the underlay with a vapour barrier

Rubbish you [b]always[/b] need a vapour barrier with a concrete subfloor or you run the risk of moisture destroying the laminate.

Tiles are not an adequate vapour barrier moisture can penetrate at seams of tiles and you do not even know the condition of said tiles better safe than sorry something like quickstep combifloor or barrier foam plus is ideal and reasonably cheap
