Hi, hope someone can help. I own a house 100+ yrs old and need to repair the plaster on an outside wall that is in poor condition. I will attempt most things however I'm not so sure about plastering a whole wall. I was thinking of drylining this wall. Should I dot and dab or batten. The wall is quite thick however there is no cavity in the wall and the house can suffer from condensation at times.

Answered much the same type of question on another post.
Apply a liquid d.p.m. to stone/brick wall,
then fix stud work and insulate in between stud work,
vapour check barrier this can be fixed seperate or be part of a plasterboard system.
Then fix plasterboard (if not using the pre-vapour checked board)

Dot and dab. You'll be forever trying to get it nice and level with battens.

What are you planning to cover the plasterboard with? The obvious answer is to skim it and decorate afterwards. Don't decorate staright over plasterboard! But for skimming it you'll need a plasterer!

Why not get one or two in to give you a quote?

I assume you mean an internal wall?

I had assumed he meant the inside of an outside wall.

Hammy,
With solid walls it is important that the internal surface can breath to get rid of moisture/condensation.
If you cover the wall with plasterboard the evaporation cannot take place and any condensation (which will get to the cold outer wall through the egdges of the plasterboard) will appear as water coming out across the floor.
Stick with a proper job - replaster the wall.
