Ceiling downlights

by JohnK » Tue May 29, 2007 12:30 am

Hi, First post, New build, Elect. has left site and left ceiling terminal blocks in roof space for downlights to be fitted. Have installed them using flat 1.0mm twin cable - do I need to clip all of these cables to meet the regs?

In bathroom moved single ceiling terminal box to roof space and replaced with 4 terminal junction box, and tailed out to downlights - suitable for Zone 1. Is this OK?

Many thanks

hi , cables need to be 50mm above ceiling and 50mm below floor , if running with joists then these cables need to be clipped not exceeding 250mm , obviously against joists then either place cables in earthed steel conduit and notch out top of joists or drill through joists in centre line , maximum diameter 0.25 x joist depth .Hope this helps good luck . Regards Jeff

Hi, yes should run cables where they won't be liable to damage, ie clipped to sides of timbers, in eaves etc,
J.B to lights fine , make sure cable outer sheath is in clamps of d/lighters, not just cores other wise all OK
