Damp coming through outside wall

by card23 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 5:22 pm

Me and my partner are in the process of buying a new house. We have just had the surveyor in and he has said he has found some damp on the wall under the kitchen sink.

He said he wasn’t to surprised about finding some because of the age of the house. He said it is because it is due to loose brick work on the outside wall and over the years the outside path has been built up to the damp cores level. He said bringing the level down would fix this.

I can bring the level down myself but will this solve the problem? or would I have to redo the brick work then coat it. I suppose the real question is WILL THIS COST ME ALOT? Any help would be much appreciated.

card23,
No-one will be able to assure you that lowering the ground level will solve the problem, certainly it will help.
I suspect you will also have to repoint the brickwork.
