Repairing wood damaged by sap from knots

by Gideon » Tue May 29, 2007 3:23 pm

I have recently bought a second-hand painted bed which clearly wasn't treated properly with knotting treatment, and now has ugly stains on the knots (showing as dirty brown marks in the white paint). When repainting do I need to apply knotting treatment over the existing paint or on the wood itself to stop this happening again?

Hi a simple answer is yes , a few thin coats is best , and don't sand it as this will break the surface of the knotting and you'll be back to square one
Hope this has been of help .
