water seaping up from ground into carpet (house on slab)

by famen » Sat Mar 14, 2009 6:43 pm

My house is on a slab and I noticed that the carpet was wet. I pulled back the carpet to find old tile. The carpet is soaked and the tile floor is all wet, but I have no clue where the water is coming from.

My first assumption was that there is a crack in the foundation. I'm hoping it's something that's not as serious, but who knows. Can anybody help me?

famen,
You haven't mentioned the age of your house.
If it is pre-war the chances are that the floor does not incorporate a damp proof membrane.
If the house is post war you will probably need to look for leaking water pipes buried in the floor.
