wiring new wall switch

by ak48 » Wed May 30, 2007 10:40 pm

Hi, I was looking for a little help in the wiring up of my wall switch.

I have 2 wall lights and one ceiling light. They used to come back to switch on wall/ two gang two way, (old). on it there was 1 way 2 way and common on each side and there was a loop of some kind a little red wire. cant remember where I took it from. the cable coming in was three core and earth. Blue, Red, Yellow and earth( takes care of itself). I was about to wire up a two gang one way dimmer switch....I thought it was only one way as only oen swicth for each light, thw wall light and ceiling light. Two gang two way was twice the price also! I have tried a few cobinations with the new dimmer switch and then went bakc to the original to get some light back but doesnt work now. what an idiot but can anyone

1/. do I need two gang two way?

2. / How do I connect to wall switch wih existing set up and wiring?

thanks for any help received.

Mandy

Hi Mandy
I think you had R common, looped to other sw.com, then Y to one set of lights for (sw A) & Blu to other light (sw B)
this would be usual way using 3core, if so then put R to L in dimmer &
Y+B in other sw.term of dimmer;
