Supporting Walls?

by Lzbth » Fri Mar 27, 2009 3:54 pm

Hi,
I Live in a bungalow, and i want to open up my living space, I have a garage connected to the house, however it does not share the roof, So i am wondering if i can knock the wall down between the kitchen and the garage? This would be i assume and exterior wall but as there is no upstairs to support can i do this?

If not can i maybe create and archway instead?

Any help appeciated
thank you

Lzbth,
Chances are that you will have to extend the roof over the garage - this will remove any loading on the common wall, build inner walls in the garage to form a cavity wall, do something with the floor depending on relative levels.
Get someone in to advise you - an architectural technician will do - you will need building regulations and maybe planning approval.
end
