Hi im a trying to render some walls in my house and ive helped on a few jobs and it looks so easy (how fooled was I ) anyway ive got my mix done and the render on the wall but in some areas it seems to crack and then fall off the wall.
I have pva'd the wall but this has not helped so any help would be good. Also could I be pushing the trowl to hard against the wall i.e do you just lightly put the mix on then flatten after????????

Sounds like you may be trying to put on too much in one go. Try layering it on in layers of just a couple of mm and building it up. Its easier to manage and it stays there.

preperation is everything when rendering , damp wall beforehand , use the right mix for the background at the right consistancy , build up in coats , use a good admix with the gauging water

About 6 of my neighbours had a firm do this task, but in all cases the walls were jet-washed first to remove lichen, at a cost of about £100. The first coat of mortar went on over metal corner-strips, and edging between semi-detached houses. The jet-wash machine was a professional unit-- petrol powered, with a large carbuoy of water in the same trailer as the pump, but I don't think grit was used.
