Water from power shower not hot enough! Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

Hi. I have a Redring Superflow 3000 power shower which is nearly 10 years old and is now not giving me hot enough water. I am having to set the dial to a higher and higher setting each time I use it. Do you think its days are numbered and the pump is dying or maybe there is a filter on it that needs cleaning or something. Your help would be much appreciated!

The shower you mention is an electric shower (fed by mains cold) rather than a power shower (pumped hot and cold fed by tank in roof).

It's more than likely that it's all scaled up. You could try to descale it using a plumbers descaler based on sulphamic acid, or orthophosphoric acid and you'll get the job done quite quickly. It may take more than one filling though, as there's a lot of heating element and not much water volume inside the heater.

Alternatively you could try replacing the heater. Google "showerdoc.co.uk/shower-spares/redring/index.html" or "showerspares.com/products/spare_parts/redring_superflow_3000" but theres a fair chance that you won't see much change out of the cost of a replacement shower. That has to be balanced against the fact that a new shower will NOT exactly fit the pipework and fixing arrangments of the old one requiring some adjustment.

Thank very much for your reply but the shower is a hot and cold feed from the water tanks. The shower unit itself has a built in thermostatic pump. But I do think you are correct in saying the repair cost outweighing the cost of replacing, so I am going to replace it. Thanks anyway!
