laminate floor repairs

Hi ive just moved into a new flat and have found some damage to laminate floor its not that bad and i have some to put back but how do and how far do i have to strip old laminate back to get the replacement in ??? And does the edge need to be cut off to get the last length back in ? am i opening a can of worms trying this ???.

dleggett,
You will have to strip back to the damaged piece, your problem will be matching the existing laminate especially the join profile.
