We live in a council dwelling, been advised that under new regulations, the kitchen sink cannot be near a cooker or hob, even with units in between, is this correct or could the council be creating a myth.

If its a council property then surely it's the council's problem as the landlord whether they are creating a "myth" or not. Actualy there is no hard and fast rule AFAIK - there is an accepted "norm" of iro 300mm.
Under new regs, ask who ever advised you or them, what the regulation are, they are quoting? Be interested to know them.
As Rosebury has mentioned no golden rule concerning this, just common sense!

I am about to do the same by putting a range dual fuel range cooker next to a 1000mm base unit with sink/drainer.I was told that so long as the switches (the double pole 45 amp/extractor socket) are well away from the sink/water then all is okay.Anyone know for definate?
