celing paint

by floorlayergrant » Fri Apr 17, 2009 3:42 pm

hi any ideas guys?
am decorating an old house and painting the celings is a pain because the former owner had a leak come through in the lounge, im using a stain stopper paint but as im rolling it on the old paint that was bonded well its coming off i thought about plasterboarding it just wondered if anyone knows an easier way?

if anything is loose, scrape back to sound adhered paint, lightly fill, sand and apply stainblock. Then paint in emulsion.
If all the old paint is flaking you could try sealing with pva first.

Oh no! For goodness sake DO NOT use PVA. Your new paint will not stick to it and thats probably the reason the current stuff is coming off in the first place.

Scrape the old stuff off and start again.

If you've got a mess after stripping thats too big to fill then the simplest, cheapest and quickest solution is to run over it with a couple of coats of textured paint.

Cheers
