My upstairs bathroom is carpeted (wall to wall). I would like to refloor it by removing the carpet and putting something else which is more easy to keep clean and dry, such as linolium for example. My question is what sort of floorings are available, considering my second floor semi detached house dos not have concrete base, but some sort of wood. I think it is hardwood, but as I am not knowlegable in this area I am not sure if that would be the correct terminology. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
unitarea,
If you are going to use lino (or similar thin material) you will have to cover the floor with hardboard - frequently fixed down. Consider using a laminated flooring but pick one designed for bathrooms.

The bathroom is upstairs - i.e. 1st floor, so there is no concrete underneath only some sort of wooden floor. The house is from the early seventies period, georgian type, the kind with a loft which cannot be converted into another room.
