I am a novice DIYer and after perusing the Loft Conversion/Boarding Project, it has given me the confidence to attempt boarding the loft myself.

However, there is one thing now holding me back. A friend of mine (a competent DIYer) has told me that the floor joists must have a minimum depth of 7" (approx 17/18cms) to support the floor panels, even though I only want to use my loft for light storage.

Is this true? If so, what are the minimum joist dimensions required to support standard floor panels, being used for light storage only.

Can anybody clarify this for me please?

If the use really is for storing light items the 100x50mm joists are adequate.
Bearing in mind that you should now have 225mm of loft insulation it would be worth increasing the joist depth so you can increase the insulation depth.
